But before you dive into your next retro purchase, it’s important to know exactly what our refurbishment and sales terms mean for you. How long is your warranty? What’s covered and what’s not? What about those beloved cassette games that might have a few skips?
In this blog, we’re giving you the full Speccy Shack lowdown on our terms and conditions for refurbished computers, games, joysticks, joystick interfaces, and cassette recorders. Because when it comes to keeping your retro kit in tip-top shape, Speccy Rules OK!
Speccy Shack Listing Descriptions
The descriptions provided in product listings are derived directly from the product packaging. Speccy Shack disclaims any liability for discrepancies that may be perceived between the description and the actual gameplay or graphics of the game. So that you know, returns based on this matter will not be accommodated.
The product description will explicitly indicate whether the game includes a manual or any original supplementary materials. In the absence of such information, it should be assumed that no manual or additional items are included. A game is deemed complete if it comprises the game itself, a manual, and any items specified on the packaging. Any promotional materials or registration cards that may have originally accompanied the game may not be included unless explicitly mentioned in the listing.
ZX Spectrum Games Testing
ZX Spectrum games available on cassette and disk formats undergo testing whenever feasible. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that much of this software is over 30 years old, and many consumer cassette players may experience issues related to dirty or magnetized heads, as well as misalignment. Consequently, all forms of magnetic storage media, including cassettes, wafas, floppy disks, and microdrives, are sold strictly as collector’s items, with no assurances regarding the integrity of the data contained within. Occasionally, we also carry rare ROM cartridge games for the ZX Spectrum, all of which are thoroughly tested before storage.
Guarantees
Refurbished ZX Spectrum computers are protected by a 12-month warranty, which guarantees that we will repair or replace any non-functional units returned to us, provided they show no signs of tampering or alteration. Please note that the warranty will be voided if the hologram label is removed. Due to the delicate nature, unreliability, and limited availability of ULAs, these components are excluded from our warranty coverage. Furthermore, if the hardware contains an original keyboard membrane, any damage incurred during the process of opening the case will result in a chargeable repair for a replacement membrane.

- Keyboard and rubber keymat faults
- Video and audio output problems
- Internal components (CPU, RAM, and Capacitors)

- Damage from using the wrong power supply or unauthorized mods
- Accidental damage (drops, spills, rage quits)
- Repairs or mods done by anyone other than Speccy Shack
- Normal wear and tear through gaming marathons
- Due to the delicate nature, unreliability, and limited availability of ULAs, these components are excluded from our warranty coverage
- If the hardware contains an original keyboard membrane, any damage incurred during the process of opening the case will result in a chargeable repair for a replacement membrane
- Loss or damage from shipping (unless reported within 7 days of receipt)
